Towards the end of August 2013, I tried to book flights using Avios for late August 2014, and was told that I had to book 355 days or closer to the last leg of my flight (i.e. return flights), and that I had to book both legs together. Seeing that my return flights were late September, I waited to book these seats as instructed by the BA call centre. When this date passed, I tried to phone in and book, but was now told that I should've already booked and there are now no longer any seats, and that I should've booked the legs separately.
While I understand that seats are limited, I do believe that seeing I was provided with the wrong information, and am now in a situation where I am unable to book the flights and seats I need, that an exception should be made.
I find it completely unacceptable that I am now being penalised and have miles that I am unable to use due to the fact that the BA call centre provided me with faulty instruction.
Furthermore, the call centre staff become very aggressive when challenged on this set of events and only the supervisors were at least polite, but still said that I'm effectively out of luck and on my own.
