A year ago we booked our holiday. Five months ago we joined Avios hoping to accumulate enough points to fly down to our destination. Mid January we had reached our goal. Checking with Comair we confirmed that there would be seats on the flights to our destination and back. When contacting Avios to book our flights, we were told that we cannot have seats on those flights and the reason was there was no available seats. I then contacted Comair, they informed me that there is available seats on the flight at the end of March.. Avios then told me there are no redemption seats on flights available. If there are no redemption seats then we must pay cash. To get flights to our destination, we lose a day of our holiday and we have to come back a day later so that means we have to pay an extra day to stay. The costing of this amounts to R6400.00. Had I known this, I would not have joined Avios and rather paid cash for my flights for the flights that I needed. Avios does not make it clear that you cannot fly on certain flights and their attitude is one of take what you can get. Other reward programs do not have restrictions on how to spend your points earned.
