On 27 September I was flying return from O.R. Tambo to Bloemfontein for a work meeting. On the same day I had my engagement party that evening at 19:00 where I organised the gathering for friends and family. On arrival at OR Tambo my flight SA1001 for 06:00 was delayed two hours. I arrived in Bloem and immediately went to the helpdesk to go on standby as I could not afford a delay on my flight back SA 1014 @ 16:00 due to my pending engagement party. At the helpdesk I was told I must come back at 14:00 and then they can help me. I arrived at 14:00 to be notified all flights have been delayed and I can not go on standby. After continous follow-up from my side nothing could be resolved and the plane got delayed even further and further without any communication and only boarded at 19:00. Needless to say I missed my own engagement party. I am highly frustrated as there was no apology or communication regarding the delays. If I knew the plane was going to be that delayed I would have hired a car and driven back to Johannesburg and be on-time. SHOCKING!!! The staff was unhelpful and SAA ruined what was supposed to be a very BIG and Special day in my life.
