On 23/01/2103 my flight from Bloemfontein to Johannesburg was delayed (once again; it seems all SAA flights to and from Bloemfontein are usually delayed). Due to the delay I would have missed my flight to London and was subsequently put on a later flight.
Unbeknownst to me, as I had not takan the original flight to London, my return ticket was cancelled. I only found out about this when I checked in to fly back to South Africa on 02/02/2013. There were no apologies made, and I was made to understand that I should be grateful that they "sorted it out". Despite having just displayed their incompetence (and causing quite a bit of stress for me), I was promptly charged 35 GBP for my luggage being 5kg over the weight limit.
I boarded the aircraft on time, but after a 4 hr wait on the runway (during which we only received water and the toilets became progressively blocked), we were told that the flight was cancelled, we were put up in a mediocre hotel, and our luggage remained on the plane.
I asked to be put on the next eveing flight, and not the planned 15h30 flight. The staff was not overly enthusiastic, but will "try".
Very few apologies, poor compensation.
