Nobody willing / able to assist

I have applied for an unrestricted APN through Altech Autopage - my service provider. Accroding to Altech the service has been activated. However, although I now get a public accessible IP address when connecting - it would appear that all incoming ports remained blocked. I am not convinced the service has been activated properly. Altech say it has - Vodacom will not confirm for me that is (or is not) properly active. Before I start looking for other causes I want to be 100% sure that the service is properly activated - but nobody will tell me.
