Changed debit order now account seems in arrears!

I changed my debit order last week from the 1st to the 25th. I applied for a new contract which is declined because my account is in arrears. HOW??? oh... because the debit order didn't go off. WHY? cause i changed it? There is money in my account waiting for the debit order to go off? When i changed the debit order I was told that it was too late to change it for Feb, but from March it will go off the 25th. Now please help me understand WHY it is in arrears and why i am on hold and then it gets cut off because nobody knows why? can ANYBODY please help me sort this out?
