Airtime missing

I have purchased R290 airtime via electronic banking to load as data on my modem on 3 Jan 2013. (money was transferred from my account). Nothing reflected on my simm card. I phoned the call centre only to be told that the airtime was used "immediately" by that sim card! (that simm is permanantly in a modem). Send an email to MTN but they did not respond! No help from later calls to the centre. Do they want me (MTN customer for more than 18 years) to write it off and move to another provider? I certainly get that idea!
