The convenient liquid damage

I took my 9-month old Samsung Galaxy S3 phone to my local Vodacom shop and they booked it in for repairs, as the phone was not charging properly, and sometimes indicated that it was charging while not plugged in etc. As I took it out of the protective cover, I told the shop assistant that the phone has been well looked after and that they must NOT tell me that it is water damage, as my previous experience in 2006 when I took a phone to them. I find it very convenient that the "liquid damage" reason often gets told when a product is in the guarantee period, to absolve them from any repair/replacement costs. It was explained to me that sometimes the humidity can cause this. (I live in Cape Town). I am very irritated that you guys absolve yourselves like this. Why give a 2-year guarantee if this is your standard response. Items that cannot tolerate our conditions should not be sold here if the humidity in Cape Town is a problem.
