Vodacom
Decline of early upgrade makes no sense

Hi,

I'm on a "no phone" contract at Vodacom paying < R100 a month (for the contract). I'm due for an upgrade in May 2014. The phone that I have been using broke over the weekend and I inquired about an early upgrade assuming it would be a simple procedure. It turns out that this is not possible. I'm willing to spend more money with Vodacom on a new contract but that apparently has no impact on their decision. It does not make any sense!

When asking them whether I can cancel the contract they told me that I would have to pay the outstanding amount plus a penalty fee. What? Can I take out another contract using the same number? Nope, that is also out of the question.

So I put the SIM into my wife's old BlackBerry, content that I will have to use her old phone for a couple of months. Nope, WhatsApp and other social media services don't work since I don't have a BIS contract. Another R59/month solves that problem.

According to their system I'm seen as a "High Value Customer" (I peeked over the consultant's shoulder). That is definitely not the way I'm being treated.

Shame on you Vodacom!

Cheers,
Eugene
