Paying for forfeited data

I have up and down cancelling my contracts with mtn eventually when all was complete after getting confirmation email from cancellations, when I enquired billing they referred me to call 808 where it was confirmed that data was loaded in November into my modem and I will b paying for it, they also confirmed that I won't be accessing it since I'm now on prepaid with my SIM, when I ask why I should then be paying for it they refer me back to cancellations who told me to call 1555 I don't know for what as they said they know nothing about contracts, nobody wants to take charge of a query they sent me from pillar to post, especially the cancellations dept. They just have this standard response that they use they fail to give out information if they advised me accordingly things would have been clear but no they just want to cancel and get done with. I am not willing to pay for this bill and too bad I have an active contract still but I surely will change my banking details if this is not reversed and you can do debt collecting on me because that's what you want.
