Supplied handset blacklisted

I upgraded at MTN Brits at the beginning of July. My first Samsung Galaxy S4 had an out of box failure and was replaced. 6 weeks later my new handset would not make or receive calls and gave the message 'Not registered on a network'. I took the phone to the shop and they sent it for repairs. After six weeks (during which time I visited the shop weekly and was told to wait a little longer each time!) I was informed that the handset was blacklisted! I had to get an affidavit stating that I had not blacklisted the phone. The owner was not available in store, so I went back a few days later to see him. He promised to make a plan before the end of the day. Nothing happened. I requested a cancellation of the contract but the owner claimed this was not possible. I phoned MTN and they said that the franchise had to initiate cancellation. I have been trying to get them to do this ever since. After 10 weeks of my phone seizing I was offered a new phone if I returned the original box and accessories but I refused because I am fed up with MTN and no longer want to make use of their services. I have now paid I excess of R2500 in contract fees on a handset I do not have!
