BLACKLISTING CELLPHONE WHEN I AM NOT A CUSTOMER

I was with another service provider until recently. I requested a downgrade from contract to prepaid effective end of October. This has been processed. At around about the same time, my phone stopped working. I have tried using my sim card in another phone and it works. I have reset my phone to factory settings - this did not help either. As a last resort, I contacted my service provider who advised me that my phone has been blacklisted by Telkom Mobile?! I then contacted your call centre 081 180. I was greeted by Charity who laughed at me when I told her about this (which I found rude, and disrespectful) - she said that as I was not one of Telkom Mobile's customers, she could not help me. She recommended that I go into a Telkom Direct store with my ID book, my proof of residence, a proof of purchase of the phone and my IMEI number. WHY must I go down to a store to do this, and waste my precious time when I am not even guaranteed that this will help!? I haven't got any idea why this phone was blacklisted in the first place?! To make this whole situation even worse, I am almost 8 months pregnant and I have NO PHONE - what happens if I go into labour and I cannot contact anyone?!
