I had 3 MTN contracts, of which 2 were data. As I battled to get 3G/HSDA signal in my centrally situated area, and two e-mails of complaint in this regard went unanswered, I started moving to another cellular SP. I gave notice on 1 MTN data contract as most of its data went unused due to poor connectivity, and planned to do the same on the remaining data- & cellular contracts.
My fixed line ADSL ISP started a new month-to-month 3G data service on the MTN network, and loaded 10Gb of free 3G data onto my MTN cellular account which upon trying seemed to be working (bulk customer vs insignificant individual?). I decided to try upgrading this contract to a data contract, and inquired at MTN branches all over Pretoria for the relevant data device of interest. There was only one available at Collonades. I informed Mary-Anne at this branch I would undertake the 80km round trip to collect. On my arrival they refused to release the device to me, as it takes MTN 5 days to transfer an account from cellular to data! My new cellular provider registered me on their network & RICA'd me in under 30mins and I left with my device. MTN cannot do a simple transfer for a customer of 12 years in a week
