Frustrated and Phoneless

I did an upgrade via MTNSP. I was told that if I took whatever phone and wasn't happy with it, I could return the device within 10 days. I used this benefit because I wasn't happy, this is when I went into MTN Menlyn where I went in 3 times to return this phone and was messed around. Finally they took the phone and I'm waiting for the upgrade to be cancelled but neither MTN stores are letting me know what's happening and I'm sitting without a phone and a new number because I'm being charged to do a sim swap! I use my contract number for everything!!!
