Simple SIM swop request turns sou

I am on Pay as You go and have had the same MTN number for ages. My SIM card (very old) no longer allowed me to send SMS and I decided to do a SIM SWOP. I bought a new SIM card, did the RICA thing, used my new SIM to request the SWOP (173 option 5) and was told to wait between 2 and 24 hrs. Nothing happened. Phoned 173 to enquire and was told I was now using a different SIM from the one I did the swop request with (total nonsense) and that some other SIM had been given my number 0783558608. Many enquiries and promises later I was told to file an affidavit with the police, because I did not remember when last I bought airtime. I lost all my airtime (at least R150), loyalty points (about 5000) data (about 160 MB) and my BB network benefits. I now have to change my cell at all the banks, insurances etc. I will do so. Very sad to be treated like that after many years of loyalty. MTN now lost a client and gained a 'negative advertiser'. Why splash money on TV adverts if you make no attempt to keep the customers you have.
