Refusal to do Sim swop

My father is 80 years old and lost his cell phone. He has now tried 3 times with the help of an Mtn outlet to do a Sim swop so he can get his no back that he has had for many years. He relies on his cell for earning a living but Mtn refuses to do the Sim swop because he cannot remember accurately the answers to their security questions. The Sim is registered in his name with his I'd and I cannot understand why they are refusing him. At 80 years is a person really expected to remember details such as who you called last week and how much airtime you had left and how much airtime you last recharged with. Please could you help with this matter.
