Big bill when I'm not using the service

Toward the end of last month (December) I contacted Neotel to inform them that I had decided to close my account with them.
I signed up with a new service provider and so disconnected the Neotel equipment.
I have not used that equipment from the 2nd or 3rd of this month.
Today I received an sms from Neotel informing me that the current balance on my account is R596, 45
How is this possible when I am not using the Neotel equipment or connection??
Please explain.
