Cell C
New mobile number range problematic

I recently took up a contract with Cell C and I was given an 061. It seemed odd, but I was reassured by the Sales Agent that the number is a legitimate cell phone number. Because I had two other numbers, I did not immediately move Cell C as my primary number until the other two contracts expired and I had to promote the Cell C number. First, I wanted to update my information on efiling (SARS). The 061 number was rejected as a cellphone. It did not ring too many alarm bells and I thought SARS was late with their development. I did send an email to Cell C notifying them of my concern (in addition to many people assuming it was a landline and calling me from a landline as a result, which costs them). Then I went to the bank to change my Notify Me. The Absa system refused to accept the 061 number. Nedbank did too. This was becoming urgent as I now cannot transact on my bank accounts via internet banking because the only cell number is being rejected. Calls to Cell C exposed me first to a rude call centre agent who then offered to change my number for R250. I see no reason why I should pay for something that is not my fault. As things stand, I am still waiting for their feedback
