Samsung Galaxy "sleep of death" defect ignored

Three weeks ago my father got a phone upgrade from Vodacom Fourways. After a week the Galaxy Ace Plus started randomly going into an unrecoverable sleep mode.
I googled the problem only to find it is a common defect in this model dubbed "Sleep of Death".

My father being ill could not address this, so I went at my first opportunity back to the Vodacom. I took in my researched info and addressed this with Sipho - the store manager, requesting I pay in the difference and get a different model. He informed me there was nothing that could be done as the one week warranty had passed. This defect only occurred once or twice in the first week, not indicating a major problem. The second week this happened several times a day. The only solution Sipho could offer was to book the phone into Vodacare.

This is a known defect - as much as Vodacom and Samsung are turning a blind eye to it - it is a well documented and common defect. Why should I have to suffer for it?

Sipho, your solution is not good enough, and your game of ping-pong accountability with Samsung is not acceptable. Vodacare have a backlog order for the parts - so still no phone, still no solution!
