I had an MTN contract for just over 4 years, I recently upgraded my contract (3rd upgrade) to a sony xperia z a month and 20 days old to be precise. The front of the phone cracked and the phone has not fell once that's the point I stressed to the MTN staff member that it had NOT fell once and think it cracked whilst in my pocket. No matter what I said all they could say was it is regarded as physical damage and a fee will be charged to repair the item. The sony xperia z retails at R7 999 and I pay R409 per month, I was quoted R3 999 to repair the item and was told that the warranty is now void due to the phone being cracked. I'm NOT willing to pay 50 % of the phones value to repair it and still have the phone for a further 22 months with no warranty and still pay R409 per month up until the time its due for the next upgrade. I would like for MTN to be more helpful in this situation due to me being an old trustworthy client. Due to it still being literally 51 days old I feel its only fair that my device is swopped 4 a new device, which still carries the warranty. I hope that MTN can liase with Sony to help resolve this problem. Very disapointed / disheartened MTN subscriber...
