CANNOT RECIEVE UP PAID LETTER

I received a call from MBD LEGAL COLLECTION. They said that they were calling on behalf of trueworths group in connection of the Identity clothing store account that I owed. After the telephone conversation that I had with the call centre agent, I received a sms with the banking details of the account that I needed to make a payment into.
On the 20th December 2012 I had made a payment of R1140 to this account:
Name of bank: Standard bank
Name of Account: MBD LEGAL COLLECTIONS
Account number: 610174096
Branch: 051001
Reference number: 0278000389765996.

On 4 January 2013 I went to Identity store and to ask for a paid up letter and they could not assist me, the only thing that they told me was my account balance was R0.00 rands.
I need to know why is the Trueworths group and it associate refusing to give me paid up letter. Please assist.
