ADT Basic alarm cancellation issue

Hi

I got a basic alarm installed by an ADT represented company Kiara Security in June 2009. We had several upgrades done to the basic alarm system by Kiara at the time of installation. We were told that the basic alarm system would revert to us after 36 months. Kiara Security has gone out of business.

Upon calling ADT to argue this fact they do not respond and simply tell me a supervisor will get back to me - which they never do.

I called their sales office pretending to be a prospective customer to find further detail on the 36 month period which has now changed to 24 months. No one there can clarify who the alarm belongs to after the term of the contract.

I have sold my house in good faith saying the alarm is part of the property as this was what I understood from the installation terms. ADT is now trying to remove the alarm system, and want to inspect the alarm to see what is installed. I suspect they want me to pay for the alarm twice, which I do not believe is fair.

I desperately need help from the consumer protection act or some governance in the security industry. Please can you assist or advise where I can go to get help with this matter.
