I signed up with ADT in february 2010 and told the consultant specifically that i was signing up for ten months. i was renting for some months in between having sold my house and buying another. ADT needed to do no alarm installations on the property. i was a little rushed and didn't want to make the consultant wait whilst i read all the fine print (go figure, who am i protecting..?) in october i cancelled my contract, assuming 30 days is a good period. i was told no way as i was tied into a 36 contract that i had to honour. i tried in many ways to speak to people in the company, total brick wall. i paid til april, til the new consumer protection law came in - thereafter the house actually stood empty whilst being renovated. years later i am being hassled and hustled for the outstanding months and lawyers' fees. awful. what can i do.
