I have had my electricity cut off for non payment of R361.70 I came home on the 25 September to fined a DISCONNECTION NOTICE shoved in my gate and no power. The notice stated in term of sec 12 (1) of the Electrical by law my power has being cut. If you read section 12 (1) of the by law it states that they must give you notice before cutting your power . but sec 7 (7) states that you account is the final notice. How ever sec 35 (2) states that any notices issued in term of the by law must be either deliver in person or sent by register mail. I did not receive a TAX INVOICE /FINAL NOTICE Paid my normal amount of R2000 plus I new I was about R350 in the black. Then somebody decides to thumb a figure up which according to the by law they are allowed to do. I have done the responsible thing and paid my normal amount . and they still cut the power then charge you R144.21 to switch the power back on. I think that this is blatant extortion and targeting the soft target.
