While i was still married to my ex-husband he used to pay money into my savings account for groceries etc. When we got divorced he told his bookkeeper that i used to work for him and that the money that was paid to me during that year was a salary, so the bookkeeper issued an IRP5 stating that I earned R60 000 for the year. Meanwhile I was employed at a firm of attorneys, so for that year end I earned over R120 000 and I got my assesment back saying I owe SARS R6 000 plus. I tried to rectify this but SARS declined my request. How can I be held responsible for someone issuing an IRP5 against me, lying to SARS about me working for them and just getting away with it. Surely SARS should look at the CC that issued this IRP5 incorrectly getting away with paying VAT on money that they claimed was a salary but actually it was money that the CC got in for services rendered???
