I submitted my Income tax for the 2012 Assessment Year on 3 Jan 2013. The original assessment from SARS states that I am due a REFUND. SARS then requests for my IRP5 Form, Medical Receipts which I submitted to them. SARS then informs me that I owe them - R14 000, to be paid to them by 31 Jan 2013.
My query is this: 1. What system does SARS use to review, calculate and decide on the refund, if any that is due to an individual. 2. Just because SARS forms part of the Government, does this give them the right to illegally enforce honest tax paying individuals to still pay in more money over and above the tax deducations already made. In my opinion, this is totally unacceptable. 3. When SARS enforces individuals to pay in more money based on their questionable method/s of calculation/s, how is this money accounted for? Honest Tax payers pay their dues to SARS yet there is no BODY that exists to defend us honest tax payers. There was taking place in Home Affairs, Dept of Tenders, etc... how are we re-assured that there isn't taking place within SARS??? OUR HARD EARNED MONEY IS TAXED TO PAY FOR THE LUXURY OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. I will NOT TAKE THIS LYING DOWN.
