Department of Home Affairs
Do not adopt a child in South Africa

My husband and I officially adopted a little girl in September 2009 andhaving finally received all official documentation required went to apply for an amended birth certificate in February 2012. However after more than a year of no response we queriec the applications progress and where informed that we would have to resubmit the application. We then did this again and after calling repeatedly where told that there were now additional forms required, which we then submitted. After numerous calls we were then issued a reference number (1302040507) after more calls we were finslly contacted telling us to contactour local branch of Home Affairs as they had succesfully completed te application and we should be issued with the new birth certificate. Upon going to our local branch we were told that not only was she no longer listed as our child on their system but that her birth certificate was no longer valid and her I.D. Number no longer exists! Wewere told to please contact head office. Head office has reffered us back to the branch telling us to reapply for a new birth certificate. Medical aid wont cover her in an accident and school is making us crazy with requests for an ID no.
