Parcel Missing

A parcel was sent to me from overseas, I was issued with a tracking number from the sender, after they received a notification that my parcel has not been collected by me so will not be delivered and will eventually be sent back to the sender. I did not and to date have not received any notification of a parcel waiting. I enquired at the Rand Ridge Mall post office, giving them the tracking number, the lady let me check the register in which all parcels received from overseas are logged. Checked back to 01/09/2013, but my parcel had not be received. The assistant was very helpful, she called the customer services with the tracking number and was advised that this particular parcel has never been received as yet.. I would therefore like know what has happened to the parcel and where it might be now, seeing the sender has been notified that I was informed and have not bother to collect it. Has another postal worker decided that seeing that it is Christmas, this gift was intended for them??? I have been informed by the post office to keep checking for the parcel. Seems weird as it was posted middle of October.
