No Delivery Report

I ordered a parcel online on the 15th of December and I was keeping an eye on the online tracking service. On the 9th of January the tracking noted "Departed Terminal Location", so it had left customs and I thought it would be delivered soon.
By the 15th of January I had still hadn't received anything and there was no update on the online tracking. I phoned the track and trace number and the lady there found out that my parcel had been at the Bryanston Post Office since the 9th!
My office is barely 5 minutes away from the Bryanston branch!
I collect my parcel on the 16th (with ridiculous custom fees, but that's a different matter), and I sent an email to SAPO customer services to complain about my lack of notification. I get an email back to apologise for the inconvenience and to give her my parcel tracking number.
The email I got back from that was just to inform me that my email had been delivered on the 16th. Yes, I got my parcel, but that's not the point. I wasted my time and money to figure out where my parcel was. It's the Post Office's job to send out a notification. If I hadn't phoned to check, my parcel would still be sitting at the Bryanston Post Office!
