Poor communication and updates

I have had a parcel shipped from the UK on the 18th of November. It took 4 days to get to South Africa and since then it has been sitting in the International mail centre.
I have tried:
1) calling all the numbers on the EMS website, but after holding on for about 5 minutes the line just goes to engaged.
2) emailing the email address on the track and trace page: [Email Removed] but get no response
The updates on the track and trace are poor... last scan was "From Customs" last week Friday (29 November 2013).
So, where is it? and how long for it to get to my local post office? I'd be horrified to see how full the mail centre is given this backlog.
