Discovery clerk second-guesses a surgeon
Tried getting surgery for an elderly family member pre-authorized. Discovery clerk argued with me whether the operation was necessary. I told her the DOCTOR said it was necessary (why have an invasive operation for fun? ). Eventually clerk said she guarantees it will be paid from SAVINGS! Why pay thousands per month to Discovery, and not be covered for a hospital procedure the doctor says is necessary? The DOCTOR was very helpful and contacted a different clerk at Discovery. After well over an hour, the procedure was eventually pre-authorized. But only after the clerk interrogated and second-guessed the surgeon!! Is Discovery really too "cheap" to cover the doctor-recommended procedure? It appeared to me they tried hard to repudiate this by using confusing jargon. Many ill people needing medical attention will surely be absolutely flummoxed by this and eventually just agree to accept the rubbish that their surgery needs to be covered by SAVINGS. It's not easy coming out of a consultation with a doctor saying you need surgery, then having to argue with a jargon-speaking clerk for over an hour. I bet Discovery often gets their money, and the sick person loses out.
