I have been struggling this year with a recurring abscess and have seen 3 different dentists and had 3 root canal treatments and eventually have been referred to a maxillo-facial surgeon who informed me that I have to have an apicectomy which Discovery have informed me is covered under my plan but that there is a deductable amount of almost R4000 which I have to pay as the procedure falls under dentistry. My procedure has been booked for 25 October and I have referred my case to the external panel at Discovery only to be told today that it was unsuccessful and that I have to pay. I am in an immense amount of pain, the letter from the surgeon confirms that the procedure cannot be done in the chair, and because I have to have the surgery I have to magically make the money appear? I find this unacceptable having been with Discovery since 2008 and have never had surgery. The first surgery I am scheduled for I have to pay for the rental of the theatre and equipment as per one of the call centre consultants, Discovery believe it could be done in the chair? I am appalled at the ideas Discovery have with regards to dentistry and what they decide is covered and have decided to change my M/A
