I have been a member of Bonitas for over 9 years and must admit that I do not find them affordable anymore. We pay close to 5k for a family of 4 and 80% of our claims are either not covered or short paid. I recently had a baby and during my whole pregnancy I firstly had to pay cash as the doctor refuse to deal with Bonitas and secondly Bonitas paid the bare minimum, my whole pregnancy cost me close to 8k ot of my own pocket.
Whilst in hospital I was given medication that had to be injected into my stomach, only to learn that it is not covered as in hospital medication and that it was paid out of my savings. This medication is required to prevent blood clots from forming and used up 3k of the pethetic savings we have. This resulted in me having to pay cash for everything else for almost 6 months due to my benefits being exhausted.
I also recently learned that Bonitas does not cover baby vaccinations and this you only get a once off benefit from your childs PAT allowance that is something like R400. What nonsense is this??
So what exactly are we paying 5k for every month??
I have cancelled my membership after 9 years and will be moving to Medshield.
