After applying for membership for me, my wife and daughter, we were placed on a general 3 month waiting period. The only reason given is that my daughter (20 months) has not been on a medical aid for 24 month continuous, and my wife has a registered PMB condition. She uses medication costing a total of R40 per month and her condition has all but none side effects, leaving Discovery without any risk in accepting us unconditionally. As far as I am concerned, Discovery is using this convenient loophole in legislation to force a prospective client to pay 3 months membership fees whilst getting nothing in return. This constitutes and in my opinion. Even though they claim you will still be able to claim in an emergency, Hellopeter complaints suggests the opposite, showing that you must be on the verge of death before you are helped. Meanwhile you are forced to cancel your current similar membership of 15 odd continuous years, to be left to the mercy of the state hospital system for 3 months. This is not a scheme I would like to move to. It's time to see if the grass is greener on the other scheme's side.
