I was on my husband's Discovery Medical Aid for a while, from which I had made no claim. He lost his job and we had to cancel the medical aid. My husband got a job where they were forced to take MMed which was being administered by Discovery. Recently he applied for me to be included in the medical aid, where they requested previous membership proof. The proof clearly states that there will be no waiting period imposed for any of his dependants. Soon as I sent my application through with the proof, attaching confirmation from Lancet that I was 3 weeks pregnant, Discover sent a schedule to say that there is a 3 month waiting period and 12 months for maternity benefits. This behaviour is both unethical and immoral as as we will have to part with R1800 extra for my membership for NOTHING while waiting for 12 months to lapse.
