Discovery Health
Not paying for medication chronically needed

After several interventions with Discovery Health they are still not paying for my medication that is chronically required. I was diagnosed with a motor neuron auto immune disease, Myasthenia Gravis, in Nov 2012 after a battery of tests and doctor visits. I am now faced with living with this disease & learning to cope with it for the rest of my life. I now have the added stress of unpaid medical bills and stress worsens the illness.
The disease is listed as a PMB condition and the Council of Medical Schemes (governing body) clearly states: 'that all aspects of care, i.e. acute and chronic medications, medical and surgical supplies, and in & out of hospital care must be covered under the PMB act. It should not be taken out of the patients medical savings account. Paragraph 4, PMB funding should include medicines deemed necessary in the treatment and care of the PMB condition."
My GP and neurologist have written motivation letters and yet Discovery continues to ignore my letters of enquiry and medication is coming out of my savings. Savings are now depleted... and I have already spent thousands of my own cash.
It is a pathetic that as a medical institute they dont care!
