I recently upgraded my contract and got a Sony Xperia Z handset. The new handset failed after only 2 weeks due to water damage, despite me carefully checking that all flaps were closed as per the manufacturer guidelines and the phone's IP5/7 waterproof rating up to 1M for 30 mins.
I've escalated this to the MTN HVRC and they just cite liquid damage and refuse to exchange a per their broad policy (they don't want to understand that the phone is supposed to be waterproof up to 1M). I've taken this mater to Sony and they understand the problem, but are very slow to act and exchange the phone. Sony has had 4 days to inspect the phone, but it's still sitting at MTN HVRC!
It appears as though Sony are refusing to accept any responsibility for this - even though the phone's flaps have water damage indicators which turn red if the flaps are left open underwater. All my flaps are still white!
They're just happily stringing me along while I'm paying MTN for a new handset that I don't have.
I don't expect any customer service from MTN... but
I expected a lot better from Sony, after being a loyal proponent of their brand for so many years.
