I purchased a Garmin watch from Sportsmans Warehouse 3 years ago, and the watch hasn't given me any problems, however of the years of use the watch strap has not worn well, and has a result has broken to the point that I can no longer wear the watch. While I see this as a manufacturing defect, I cannot expect the cost to be covered by Garmin due to the age of the watch.
I took the watch to Sportmans Warehouse in the Pavilion, who in turn sent it to Garmin in Johannesburg. They contacted me to tell me they no longer stock straps for my model, and I would either have to pay R600 for a refurbished watch, or R1000.00 to replace it with a new model. I was not happy with this and contacted their service centre in Johannesburg, as I find it unacceptable that they cannot replace the strap - its not a great deal to ask
I spoke to Jaco Smit, the workshop supervisor who told me to e-mail him with all the details and he would let me know what he could do. I have since sent him 3 mails, to which i have had no response at all.
The overall experience has left a very sour taste in my mouth!
