Returning the car before opening hours, the receiver told me the grass collected under the pedals would require an external valet. I complained to him that it was unnecessary, a vacuum cleaner would suffice. I wrote same on the return form, hoping common sense would prevail. Nope, there it was, charged to my credit card: valet service - R200.
I complained and received a standard copy-and-paste response: When a vehicle comes back from rent and our staff members are not be able to clean the vehicle to a standard that it can go out on rent again, we use an outsource company to clean the vehicle professionally.
Seriously? You can't point a vacuum cleaner at the floor and move it about a bit? If they really had the customer's best intentions in mind they'd have figured this out and done it themselves; they'd also have made it quite clear beforehand that it's best to clean the car before returning it because they are incapable of cleaning it themselves. But what's this? First Car Rental company doesn't have a vacuum cleaner? That's fine I brought my own. It's right here in my hand luggage.
A cynical way of making a few extra bucks on every car that comes in.
