Despite receiving confirmation of the booking, there was no vehicle available at this branch (Jhb depot). I eventually obtained the vehicle 1&1/2 hours later.
I was expected to agree to additional insurance and limited mileage (200km per day) despite the contrary being indicated when I booked on- line. This was eventually corrected after I refused to sign.
According to official statistics the fuel consumption on this vehicle is 6, 2l/100km. I filled the tank after less than 180 km. It took 25.53 liters @ R340.06. This is vastly more than 6, 2l/100 km. Clearly the fuel tank was not properly filled as it should have been in terms of the vehicle inspection form.
I returned the vehicle to OR Thambo airport after topping up at the petrol station closest to the airport. This was in response to a telephonic request request from Ananda Lee Mortimer (Customer Care Manager) and handed the petrol slips to the Thrifty office.
After numerous emails to Mortimer I was eventually advised a month later that "many factors may attribute to the fuel consumption of the vehicle in question". I have subsequently changed to Hertz for professional service - what a difference! Good bye Thrifty!
