Credit card closure

I have tried on several occassions to have my credit card closed. I sent an email asking for it to be closed and was told that there was an outstanding balance on the credit card. I was surprised because I requested a settlement quote and paid the amount on the quote into the account. I discovered a few weeks later that the money was paid into the loan account instead of the credit card account from a consultant in a branch. I then contacted the head office and was told that the matter was escalated to the rescheduling department and they would transfer the money to the credit card and close it for me, the process was meant to take 48hrs. A few weeks later and I still haven't been contacted, credit card still has a balance and I don't know what else to do.
