17/05 I phoned SBSA Card division to close my credit account.
24/05 I got an sms confirming my credit card account had been closed. Reference number: 34101782.
29/05 I get my credit card statement and there is an amount I have to pay.
29/05 I phone the credit card contact centre and am informed that a lad by the name of Bella told me there is a settlement amount I need to pay. I was told this happened on 17/05 when I phoned the contact centre. I have requested the recordings of that phone conversation as Bella did not tell me that. I was asked how I got my settlement amount. For me that meant, my outstanding balance, so I told her I checked on online banking and paid the R1000 outstanding balance on the credit card. That was it.
Although the amount I have to pay is less, I will not pay it as my account was closed before I got the statement, I had settled my balance and no one informed me of an additional amount I had to pay.
Why would I get an sms confirmation that my account has been closed if I will still owing money? Is that even possible?
If someone needs to pay the money then it will be paid by the contact centre agent, Bella, not me.
