Liberty Life
Ex Gratia claim refused for Pulmonary Embolism

In October last year I was injured at work and due to the injury had to get a knee operation. Thereafter I was hospitalized for deep vein trombosis as well as pulmunory embolism. Conditions that could have killed me. Now I am on Warfarin treatment for months. Upon investigation I found that other insurers paid out for this as its a life threatening condition only to find out that Liberty do not see it this way. I was hugely upset a lodge a complaint then I was told that an ex gratia claim for trauma would be submitted. This claim took about 7 weeks only to be rejected with the following: "The committee considered the fact that we have had several claims for pulmonary embolism that have been declined. There is also the fear that this would set a precedent. The condition is simply not covered under this policy and the committee could not sanction a payment." NICE!! but when I asked whether I can increase my policy to cover me for this I was told that they cannot cover. Clearly a life threatening condition but not when you want to be paid out. These people most likely will not pay out my life policy if I die via a blood clot. BEWARE OF THIS POLICY!! There are clearly better ones!
