A pension cheque was deposited inside the branch. I have a receipt. The cheque was lost by the bank. I was not informed but only saw the reversal of the deposit on my statement. NB!!! The fee was not reversed. I went into the branch to enquire. I was told it is now my problem to cancel the cheque (issued in Portugal via Mercantile Bank) ask them to re-issue and then re- deposit. Standard Bank should have said: SORRY! We are the guilty party, please try and get another cheque but in the meantime we will not reverse the deposit until the new cheque is deposited. You have been inconvenienced, you have been a SB client was a long time and it is a pension cheque, therefore we will not charge you fees for the next 6 months (less than the value of the cheque). PS. will not charge you for this consultation on how to keep your customers happy. Totally unacceptable.
