I have a Paintech Auto body warranty with Regent insurance. When I signed the policy I was told that it covers all minor scratches and dents to the value of R4000.
I scratched the front bumper of my car. I submitted the claim for R1500. Almost immediately the claim was "regrettably" repudiated.
When I repeatedly queried this they eventually responded. Their claim was that the scratches on my vehicle were longer than 15cm. They claimed this despite not even having looked at the vehicle. They claimed that they could judge the damage from the panel beater's photograph.
None of their claims were valid. Eventually I wrote to the ombudsman. I put my case forward. The ombudsman ruled in my favour and Regent was ordered to repair the scratches.
In December, I scratched my rims. Once again I got the necessary quote and filled all forms as required. The amount for the claim was R2200. I submitted my claim, and within 24 hours the claim was rejected as the amount claimed was too high.
I repeatedly explained to the agent (Ilse Brits) that the value I was insured for was R4000 and that the value of the claim was only R2200. She told me that she would speak to her manager.
I'm still waiting...
