Metropolitan Life
A child cover without a child is not possible

About 3 months ago I suffer the loss of my newborn child and knowing that I had funeral cover with Metropolitan I was advised by their Consultant to process a claim for stillborn death/ newborn death. I then went first to PMB offices and was given a declaration by police form to be filled out by the police since the death was unnatural. I did that and went to the JHB office to process the claim, the lady there adviced that she will have to first register the child and then make the claim so it might take a few days. A week or so after I as told Metropolitan wont pay out since I did not have a children benefit in my funeral cover, the question is HOW CAN ONE COVER OR HAVE A CHILD FUNERAL COVER BENEFIT WHEN YOU DONT HAVE A CHILD? This was my first baby and passed on a few days after being born so there would not have been time to cover her, my question is how can one anticipate such and what would be the point of paying a higher premium to have a child/ren benefit when you dont have kids. This is unfair I have been with Metropolitan since 2007 & this was the first claim yet they gave such a pathetic reason to refuse it, DISAPPOINTING. Other insurers e.g. Absa pay regardless!
