My mother took out a funeral cash provider policy in 2008 @ the age of 72. The policy schedule states a total cover of R15000 made up of funeral benefit R5000, accident benefit R5000 & funeral services R5000. My mom passed away yesterday and all has broken loose @ a time when they should be there to make things easier for the family - is that not why you take out a policy to cover your funeral costs? At the bottom of the schedule it states that the funeral services cover ceases @ the age of 65!!! Why was this cover then sold to my mom and the d/o raised monthly? I queried this and was told that I should submit a claim for R5000 only. When asked about the misrepresentation, I was told to submit a claim!! I then called the customer services number & the service was even worse. I am going to forward all the documentation to the ombudsman, FAIS and CPA for investigation as a policy was sold to my mom when she did not qualify for the cover sold to her. I also notice that the policy no on the bank statement differs from that on the schedule which raises more concerns of what could still be popping out of the woodwork. I will never recommend Metropolitan to anyone for anything.
