I am shocked at the kind of service I received from Metropolitan Life. I took the Futurebuilder Family Funeral Plan with this company in 2007 and covered my parents in case of death. My father passed away on 09 December 2012 due to unnatural causes and I went to the Empangeni branch to lodge a claim, I was then advised that I need to bring a letter from Induna or area cansellor indicating that my father was infact my father. I found this to be extremely insensitive because this information should have been requested at the inception of cover and not at a time when I was claiming.

For this reason I could not continue with the claim because my siblings and I were busy planning the funeral and did not have time to fulfil all the requiremnts by Metropolitan. I eventuall got all the documents and submitted everything on 21 December 2012. I was told that the claim will take a couple of days to settle because it has to go to forensic, I was not told why this was the case, as the money I was claiming for was only R5000. The claim was eventually paid out on 11 January 2013, 15 working days later!!! This is unacceptable, a funeral claim is supposed to be paid in 48 hours, not 15 days!
