Standard Bank
ATM

On the 11th September I went to the ATM at Northmead Square to check my balances. I put my card in and put in my pin, but the screen for some reason was on the instant cash page which I did not notice. My card was then swallowed by the machine. If you have the footage you will see that I did not leave that machine, it was within sight at all times. I went into the shop opposite and the shop owner tried to assist me in getting my card back. We couldn't get the card back out. So I phoned to cancel the card. During this period R1 800 was withdrawn from the First National Bank ATM.
After waiting the 15 or so days, I am told that my money won't be refunded. No offer of a decent explanation or anything.
This is grossly unfair, as I am cautious, but due to a "fault" and lack of security within the ATM's, I must suffer for it? Since when would the default for the machine be something that would expose your pin???
I see now, as of late, that there are posters all over the place at the Northmead Square Standard Bank ATM's warning of... In the CMS (crime newsletter) a few weeks later, the front page was all about a "New " which described exactly what happened to me.
