Incorrect billing

Lost my african bank credit card and went to have it replaced. i was told to go and get a 3 months bank statement from my bank! i dont understand why i had to do that just to get a card replaced! Nonetheless i went to get a bank statement and activated my card at the branch and was told that my card will be active WITHIN 48hrs. Now more than 60hrs later my card is still not active. i called african bank and spoke to Palesa and she told me that my account was on arrears that is why my card was not activated. granted, my account was on arrears for sometime but now it was up to date. i asked for a bank statement and according to it, my account is up to date and i dont have any arrears. I then called them back and spoke to Abel and explained to him what happened and he too maintaned that i was still on arrears but the statement proved the opposite. i now have to wait for 3 working days for the dispute to be resolved. why wasnt i told of this at the branch? im so disappointed at african bank and now more than ever, i am determined to close this account.
